Bobade Accident Hospital, established in 1988, is a premier orthopedic and trauma care center located in Baramati, Maharashtra. Strategically situated near the central bus stand, the hospital caters to a population exceeding 2 lakh, including underserved rural regions. Over the decades, it has evolved into a referral center for advanced orthopedic, arthroscopic, and spine interventions.
The Hospital was founded by Dr. Satish M. Bobade, Baramati’s first qualified orthopedic surgeon, an alumnus of B.J. Medical College and Sancheti Hospital, Pune. With a commitment to delivering evidence-based musculoskeletal care to rural and socioeconomically disadvantaged populations, Dr. Bobade initiated the practice with an 8-bed setup under the name Baramati Accident Hospital.
Pioneering orthopedic innovations in the region, he introduced:
- Internal fixation procedures using intramedullary nails and dynamic compression plates
- The region’s first Ilizarov technique for limb lengthening and complex deformity correction (1992)
- First bipolar hemiarthroplasty for hip fractures in Baramati (1999)
- Establishment of a Class 100 Laminar Air Flow Modular Operating Theatre
- Introduction of primary total knee and hip arthroplasty (2001 onward)
He remains an active contributor to the field through academic engagements and CME participation. Dr. Bobade was conferred the Individual Achievement Award by the National Institute of Health Science in 1999.
